Michael Buchney enters his 11th season as Head Coach of the Highland Lakes Swim Team this season, having previously served as an assistant coach for the team from 2005-2007. A product of the program, Michael swam for Highland Lakes between 1994-2004. In his time as Head Coach, the team has won three LSC White Division Championships and an LSC Red Division Championship, in addition to four Division High Point titles at the LSC A-Championship meet.
Coach Michael prioritizes team spirit, good sportsmanship, and cultivating a love for the sport of competitive swimming as primary goals for the team as a whole. On an individual basis, the focus is on developing and improving swimmers of all levels to reach their own individual swimming goals.
Sofia Staley enters her third season as Assistant Coach of the Highland Lakes Swim team this season. She started her swimming career on the Highland Lakes swim team in 2008 as a 6 and under, which sparked her love for the sport. She then started swimming for Aqua Gems Club Swim Team from 2015-2002, and attended Vernon Township High School where she competed and acted as co-captain her junior year, and captain senior year of her swimming career.
Sofia has always loved being a part of the Highland Lakes Community, working as a lifeguard and teaching swim lessons, as well as coaching the swim team, where most of her favorite memories and longest friendships have been made.
